Parents supporting Parents
Volunteer support is at the heart of each Home-Start.
Families struggling with issues including isolation, post-natal depression and physical health problems receive the support of a Volunteer who will spend around 2 hours a week in a family's home supporting them in ways they need:
help you establish routines for you and your children
play and read with your children
listen to your worries, concerns and hopes for the future
offer a shoulder to cry on
share their own experiences of parenting and family life
offer you advice if you ask for it
provide support, friendship and encouragement
help you access benefits, grants and financial support
help you use local services or specialist services
Our Volunteers are parents themselves or have parenting experience. They all undergo extensive training in areas covering boundaries and behaviour, confidentiality and Safeguarding and are DBS checked before being carefully matched with any family.

"My Volunteer was wonderful. She increased both my son's confidence and mine in helping him with his learning at home. With my Volunteer's help he settled into nursery quickly - he was more confident" – Louise
Who can make a referral?
Anyone can refer in to access our support. We often receive referrals from other agencies and professionals such as health visitors, social workers, family support workers and other voluntary organisations. Families can also refer themselves.
How do I make a referral?
If you are a family and wish to refer yourself for our help and support, please click here to contact one of our team of friendly staff.
What happens next?
Once the referral has been accepted we will arrange an initial appointment to discuss your needs and tell you more about the support we have to offer. We will carefully match you with either one of our Home Visiting Volunteers or a Family Support Worker, whichever most closely meets your family's needs. You will then receive regular weekly support.
Referrers will be kept informed throughout the process.
